2018 is just getting started, but certain trends are already emerging. The world of work is undergoing a complete revolution, with new jobs being created just as quickly as others disappear. Here’s a focus on the new jobs that will define 2018:
Data Analyst
This is currently one of the most sought-after professions for good reason! Thanks to social media, various websites and blogs, and customer feedback, companies are collecting vast amounts of data. While raw data has little value, once properly processed and analyzed, this data becomes a goldmine for the business. The data analyst is a statistician who plays a key role in understanding a company’s target audience and who leverages this data for commercial purposes.
The three sectors that use data the most are: first, transportation companies; second, consulting firms; and third, tied between support services and real estate activities.
Business Intelligence
Also called “decision support systems,” Business Intelligence aims to collect all relevant data about a company’s operations to help managers and directors make important decisions. While Business Intelligence initially focused on financial data, today it also facilitates decisions related to customer relations, logistics, and even human resources.
While large companies primarily use Business Intelligence, we’re seeing more and more SMEs and startups adopting these tools to develop their business. Moreover, the sectors using this technology are no longer limited to e-commerce or support functions—all sectors can benefit from this technology.
Cybersecurity
In recent times, careers related to cybersecurity have been growing significantly, especially since the major cyberattack last June. Following this unprecedented breach, companies realized how critical it is to protect their data and that of their customers. These positions operate at different levels within the company, which is generating many jobs.
It should be noted, however, that the vast majority of job openings are located in the Paris region, as demand is primarily from large corporations and their headquarters (approximately 70%). Today, cybersecurity roles account for over 25,000 positions, and this number continues to rise.
Artificial Intelligence
While a few years ago the idea of operational AI was pure fantasy, today it seems clear that artificial intelligence will soon need to be integrated into our daily lives and work. A report by Dell and the “Institute for the Future,” a California think tank, predicts that 85% of jobs in 2030 don’t exist yet. However, contrary to popular belief, the rise of artificial intelligence could create 21 million new jobs.
Today, AI roles primarily concern engineering, but in the coming years, positions in management, education, and psychology will need to be considered.
Green Jobs
With the trend moving toward sustainability, CSR-related positions will become increasingly important. In fact, in 2017, according to an E-RSE study, 84% of European companies stated that CSR is a major pillar of their development strategy.
CSR is first and foremost integrated into marketing and communications, supply chain, human resources, and research and development.
